new, old and grey

Today I thought I would share a few new pieces (actually old pieces) but new to our shop/warehouse.

When I looked through my photos I noticed they all had one thing in common - the pieces photographed were all various shades of grey. This was unitentional but made me realise that I am a bit partial to a bit of grey around the place.

(Furniture is great in grey but I will still be making regular trips to the hairdresser!!!)

New to montreux/trove trading co is a set of french windows, an egyptian window grille, a small single drawer french table, french shutters, and a fabulous set of aussie lockers.

Please feel free to contact our store for further information on any of the above items.

ageing - gracefully?

It really was a pleasure to be interviewed recently by Nicole Haddow from The Melbourne Weekly.

Over the years we have had various articles written about us, but I think this article gives a great insight into what I have been up to over the past year or so. Thanks Nicole and also a big thank you to Darren James the photographer, who made it look like I was sitting there happy and relaxed, whilst really I was having a bit of a breakdown about being photographed!

happy easter, happy easter break

I know that there is more to Easter than the fact that I will be having a few days break away from working, but I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to that break (and to the hot cross buns which will be eaten over those days!!!)

Happy Easter

and
happy Easter break (to all the other burnt out bunnies!!)

creating a scene

Our warehouse can be, for the unprepared, a little daunting! Unlike our shop which is small and inviting, our warehouse is a much larger, open space filled with furniture and smaller pieces in an informal environment.

As a result of this, some of its contents can often go unnoticed. I have 'created a scene' with some of our pieces to preview some of what we have available for those brave enough to fossick!

One European pine dropside table....

                     .... one large metal container....

.... a pair of vintage skis....

                     .... a collection of books....

                      ....small wooden boxes....

....and some old bottles....

....to create this scene

All available at our warehouse, although not always so beautifully presented - We are only too happy to help you create your scene!

beautiful in any setting

We have a series of 'location' spaces at our warehouse in Prahran which are often used for photographic shoots. We have a beautiful room which has been taken back to its original plaster (after the removal of about six layers of paint and wallpaper). The result is amazing.

We had the most beautiful settee in this room which was a 'hire only' piece and after being asked constantly if this piece was for sale, we finally weakened under pressure and decided to sell it! It was sold to a gorgeous young girl (about to be married) who will be putting it in her bedroom.

As it sat in our warehouse against a simple white wall over sisal matting (waiting for the removalist) it still looked amazing in such a simple setting. A piece like this will look beautiful wherever it ends up!

some people collect shoes

With daylight saving coming to an end, it was so exciting to feel that I had an extra hour in my day today!

On a not often enough walk around our garden, I noticed that Autumn had arrived without me really noticing. Our grapevine was a little strange this year with the leaves changing colour quite early, probably due to our cool summer. We have a wall of Virginia creeper which is beginning to turn all the beautiful red tones before disappearing for the winter. This wall really has become a seasonal indicator changing all too quickly for my liking!

This blog was to be about the realisation that Autumn had arrived and I thought a  garden chair in front of the above mentioned creeper would set the scene. But which chair? I tried a couple of different ones and on looking around our garden I realised there was quite a choice - WHERE ON EARTH DID THEY ALL COME FROM?!
